Galveston Birth Center

Galveston Birth Center was planned with the intention of improving women’s access to alternative maternity care and the choices available to them for their pregnancies and births. In a county where birth options are limited, the existence of a birth center creates diversity in maternity care choices, not only for Galveston Island, but for many neighboring towns.

We share a vision for families on and close to the island that will provide families options for receiving prenatal and postpartum care close to home and for birthing outside of the hospital.

We chose a historic location, close to the hospital; where clients can receive the family-centered care they desire, attend classes, meet for lactation support, and birth in a comfortable environment that affords the luxuries of home while being fully equipped for an out of hospital birth. Our facility is a 3,800 square foot Victorian-era home located on 10th Street, just blocks away from UTMB Hospital.  All prenatal and postpartum care takes place in our facility or Pearland office, depending on what is most convenient for the families we serve.

Our clients have the option to birth in their own homes or in our fully-equipped birth center. Additionally, we offer the option to our own clients, and for those birthing with other providers, placenta processing at the island’s only space that is dedicated solely for placenta processing.

Meet Your Midwives

Jaymee Boughton

I have always held a strong belief that pregnancy and birth are normal life events. Working with women and their families has confirmed for me that the childbearing journey is a spiritual, physical and emotional experience.

Lourdes Resendez

Doula, Student Midwife

I have been providing families in the Houston area with professional labor/birth doula services for over a decade. In 2008, I began working as a midwifery assistant, and in 2015 began my training to become a midwife.

Melissa White

As a midwife, Melissa believes that women should be able to receive evidence based care in any setting, receive the information that they need to make informed choices and feel comfortable asking questions.

As soon as Jaymee answered her phone, I knew IMMEDIATELY that I was going to put all my fears away and do a home birth. She was so soft spoken, patient, informative, knowledgeable it's ridiculous. I felt so empowered after I talked to her. It was the most satisfying and fulfilling moment in my life having such a blessing of a midwife by my side the entire way. The peace and serenity she brings to the birthing experience is one ALL moms should witness. Please, take my advice...call Jaymee, set up a consultation visit, and bring another beautiful life into this world. You won't regret it!

– K Freeman

Melissa is professional, honest, reliable, thorough, funny, and kind. It is with the highest praise and respect that I recommend Melissa to any pregnant mama considering having baby in a more natural birthing environment.

– Monica G.

We interviewed several midwives in the area before choosing Jaymee and she was very attentive throughout my pregnancy, birth and postpartum. She is big on teaching and I learned more about myself and baby during this pregnancy than I did the first time around through my Dr. For future pregnancies, Lord willing, she will be our midwife and close friend for life.
